Apple has launched a ‘first-of-its-kind’ investment fund in China which, it says, will connect suppliers with renewable energy sources.
The fund its part of the tech giant’s commitment to address climate change and increase the use of renewable energy within its supply chain.
Ten initial suppliers and Apple will jointly invest nearly $300 million over the next four years into the China Clean Energy Fund.
It will invest in and develop clean energy projects totalling more than 1 GW of renewable energy in China – the equivalent of powering nearly 1 million homes.
Since launching the clean energy program in 2015, 23 manufacturing partners have committed to 100 percent renewable energy for Apple production.
Apple is investing in over 485 megawatts of clean energy projects across six provinces in China, to address upstream emissions in our supply chain.
